For laboratory reactors with smaller vessel volumes and extremely high operating temperatures, the temperature control accuracy is primarily achieved through segmented temperature control via intelligent programs on the temperature controller. During operation, the temperature controller performs PID self-tuning to ensure that the temperature is tentatively heated and controlled around the setpoint temperature of the equipment. This temperature-control method typically offers a temperature control accuracy of about 1 to 1.5 degrees Celsius, making it well-suited for applications where moderate temperature control accuracy is required but high precision is not essential.

The primary method involves heating a medium—such as oil, water, or steam—to a specified temperature within the jacket, which then transfers heat to the reactor vessel. By first controlling the temperature of the medium, this approach ensures that the reactor’s internal temperature remains stable and prevents overheating. There are two main configurations for this method: one where the jacket itself is heated directly, achieving temperature control accuracy of 0.5 to 1 degree; and another where the medium is heated externally and then circulated back into the jacket, enabling temperature control accuracy ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 degree.
