The manufacturer of Hastelloy reactors briefly explains the functions of reactors and their common types.
Hastelloy Reactor Manufacturer: What is the function of a reactor?
A broad definition of a reactor vessel is a container that facilitates physical or chemical reactions, enabling the heating, evaporation, cooling, and low- to high-speed mixing functions required by the process volume.
The reaction vessel operates on the principle that, after a reaction solvent is added to the inner layer, a stirring reaction can be carried out. The sandwich structure allows for circulating heating or cooling of the reaction using different cold and hot sources (such as chilled fluids, hot water, or hot oil).
Through the reactor’s sandwich structure, a thermally controlled (high- or low-temperature) hot or cold dissolution medium is injected to maintain a constant temperature for heating or cooling the materials inside the reactor. Meanwhile, depending on operational requirements, the reaction can be carried out under either atmospheric pressure or negative pressure conditions with stirring. The reaction can be performed directly within the reactor, and the materials can be discharged from the outlet at the bottom of the reactor, making operation highly convenient.
Hastelloy Reactor Manufacturer: What are the common types of reactors?
The manufacturing structures of small reactors are divided into open-top, flat-cover reactors. Each structure has its own specific application range as well as advantages and disadvantages. Reactors can be classified into the following types based on their materials and intended uses.
Hastelloy Reactor Manufacturer: Stainless Steel Reactor
According to the different manufacturing structures of reaction vessels, they can be classified into three major categories: open-type flat-top reaction vessels, open-type welded-flange reaction vessels, and closed-type reaction vessels.
Stainless steel reactors typically feature stirring mechanisms such as anchor-type, paddle-type, turbine-type, propeller-type, or frame-type agitators. Multi-stage impellers can be used, and the choice of agitator type can be customized according to the user’s specific requirements.
Stainless steel reactors are classified according to their sealing types into packed seals, mechanical seals, and magnetic seals. The cooling methods include jacket cooling and coil cooling inside the reactor vessel.
Stainless steel reactors are widely used in the petroleum, chemical, rubber, pesticide, dye, pharmaceutical, and food industries. They serve as pressure vessels for carrying out processes such as vulcanization, hydrogenation, hydrocarbonization, polymerization, and condensation, including reactors, reaction kettles, decomposition kettles, and polymerization kettles.
Hastelloy Reactor Manufacturer: Magnetic Stirred Reactor
Employing a static sealing structure and a magnetic coupling between the agitator and the motor drive, this design effectively addresses leakage issues that traditional mechanical seals and packed seals cannot resolve. As a result, all stirring components of the medium operate in a completely sealed environment, making it ideal for applications in petroleum, chemical engineering, organic synthesis, and polymer material polymerization.
Hastelloy Reactor Manufacturer: 3. Electrically Heated Reactor
Electrically heated reactors feature rapid heating, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and zero environmental pollution. Depending on their manufacturing structure, they can be categorized into three types: open-top flat-cover reactors, open-type electric-welded flange reactors, and closed reactors. Each structural design has its own specific application range as well as advantages and disadvantages.
