Users need to acquire the necessary application knowledge when operating a laboratory reactor. So, let’s take a closer look at the functions and characteristics of laboratory reactors!
The function of a laboratory reactor.
In industrial production, the vessels used for chemical reactions come in various forms, suitable for a wide range of reaction conditions. The materials, temperature, pressure, and other parameters all vary depending on specific requirements. Generally, these reactors are relatively low and robust. There are also synthesis towers, which actually serve the same purpose as reaction vessels but have a tall height and small diameter. Because the internal media within these pressure vessels undergo vigorous reactions, they are considered rather hazardous reaction vessels.
Various resins—such as those used for computer motherboard substrates and inkjet photo materials—are synthesized and processed in reaction vessels, which are commonly referred to as chemical reaction containers.
Characteristics of Laboratory Reactors
The laboratory reactor is fabricated from Hastelloy B2 material, and all parts in contact with the process materials—including valves and pipelines—are made of Hastelloy.
1. The laboratory reactor features a rapid, open-type structure equipped with functions such as downward movement of the reactor vessel and a tilting mechanism.
2. The laboratory reactor components are reasonably configured, have a compact structure, and are easy to install and operate.
3. The safety valve uses a rupture disc with small deviation in the rupture pressure, rapid instantaneous venting, and high safety and reliability.
4. Equipped with a needle valve and reciprocating switching mechanism, this design is durable and provides reliable sealing. All valves are installed rationally, ensuring no leaks and eliminating dead corners. The feed inlet is fitted with a pipe valve for convenient material feeding. The pot lid opening is designed as shown in the schematic diagram. The spare port features a bent pipe extending approximately 120 degrees outward, making it easy to connect hoses and other equipment.
5. To minimize the number of times the lid needs to be opened and facilitate material discharge, the discharge valve is a bottom-opening valve, ensuring that there are no dead corners during mixing.
6. The reactor is equipped with a backup pressure valve that can adjust the pressure between 1 and 5 MPa, enabling precise control and stabilization of the internal pressure. A laboratory reactor is a vessel used for conducting chemical reactions. It includes various types such as stirred reactors, magnetic-stirred reactors, and hydrothermal synthesis reactors.
The primary function of a reactor is to provide a reaction environment, maintain specific conditions, ensure that the chemical reaction proceeds in the prescribed direction, and yield qualified reaction products.
A reactor with a reasonable design and excellent performance can meet the following requirements.
1. Meet the requirements of chemical kinetics and mass transfer processes, ensuring fast reaction rates, excellent selectivity, high conversion yields, abundant target products, and minimal by-products.
2. Timely and effectively input or output heat to maintain thermal equilibrium within the system, ensuring that the reaction process proceeds at an appropriate temperature.
3. Possess sufficient mechanical strength and corrosion resistance to meet the pressure requirements of the reaction process, ensure equipment durability, and guarantee production safety.
4. Easy to manufacture, convenient for installation and maintenance, flexible in operation and adjustment, and long production cycle.
